BIO
This UK based band blends together the voices of Dave whose unique tone and cry both complement and contrast the soft tone of Wendy in equal measure. By extension of Wendy’s voice, another layer is added with violin solos and harmonies throughout. Dave plays rhythm guitar alongside Oskar on lead who adds catchy, upbeat riffs and harmonies aplenty. And bringing it all together is Josh adding stunning bass lines and Ben on percussion; pushing the boundaries of the typical acoustic set up using the cajon like you haven’t heard and adding bongo, cymbal and anything else that completes the Restless Ocean sound.
The band thrive when writing collaboratively and bring together indie, folk, rock and pop influences to create a unique sound with catchy lyrics and melodies that get the audience singing along – even if seeing live for the first time. Songs draw on themes of life transitions, reflections and passing time with a positive outlook that motivates and inspires. Even ‘Endless’ written in memory of Oskar’s late father, has an upbeat and warming sound that soothes despite the heart-breaking reality of mourning a loved-one. “Time” and “light” is weaved throughout the lyrics of songs and inspired the name of their recent debut EP. When seeing Restless Oceans live you can expect to hear the impactful open song ‘Precious Time’ which has a heavy rock feeling towards the end, contrasted with the sublime acapella opening to ‘Open Your Eyes’. Also a more recent new number, ‘Jump Into The Tide’, has potential to stop you in your tracks and take you on a journey with the changing dynamics and powerful vocals.
Their debut EP, Time & Light, was recorded in Oxford at Evolution Studio, with Nick Moorbath, in June 2023.
